More Photographs

I've since explored the ideas stated on my last post, (being the idea of photographing the washing machine while spinning with the clothes inside and also the idea of the washing liquid being poured in). I shot some of these images in landscape for some reason after having shot the majority of the others in portrait. However below are the images.....

Furthering my photographs.....

Need to look at completing the washing process while maintaining my feel about the washing just so that i can complete the series.........

Am going to photograph the washing if able to while its washing, using a long shutter speed to allow the outside of the washing machine to be in focus yet the washing and water itself will be a slight blur.

Secondly am going to try photographing while the liquid washing powder is being poured into the washing machine.........am most likely going to place a container into the washing machine and will power in liquid maybe even milk to get the image i want, while still maintaining the intimidating/daunting feel of the ritual of washing.

Photographs- Intimidation

Take two if you like........i took these photographs while keeping in mind the fact of wanting to show how i feel about washing through my images.

So i decided to take the photos on a upward angle where the washing appeared to have a towering affect, therefore making it seem large and a daunting task/intimidating.

Photographers

Some more photographers..........

Francis Kearney- he sets up work to recreate moments in family life.

Sophie Calle- she has narrative based work including stories from her life(or so we are lead to believe). Her photographs look at visual evidence of ritualist things.

Thomas Struth- his series "The Audience" looks at people looking. Is a very interesting series to look at.

Tom Hunter- British photographer....the titles are very important and go hand in hand when viewing his work.

Wolfram Hahu Fotografie- photographed little children watching the same t.v programme. Very visually appealing and interesting to look at.

Some photographs......

First lot of photographs taken for this brief. I'm looking at the idea of the ritual of washing as in my case i general do a load once a week and therefore is a ritual in my life.

Unfortunately some of the images are out of focus and i didn't remove them before creating the contact sheet.

From these photos i've discovered that i need to show how i feel about this ritual rather than just documenting the process of it.

Also, regarding the coloring of the images, could perhaps use effects to change the coloring of the images so that when the washing is visibly unwashed its rather dull and then as it gets cleaned/ dried etc the coloring is apparently more brighter.

Photographers

Ben Donaldson- Photographed people being hypnotised, this represented in a way the true persoon as they were unaware of the images of themselves being taken.

Edith Amituanai- Photographed documentary style of the expectations on young people in families from Samoa.

Hans Van Der Meer- Photographed sports imagery, were very visually appealing. Not only did he take images of the sport being played but also included the surrounds in which it was played, eg the landscape that surrounded the sports feild etc.

Joy Gregory- A British artist using alternative printing techniques. Photographed "objects of beauty"

Peter Harken Thompson- Photographed portraiture, used brillant lighting and interesting people interacting with the world.

Rinko Kawachi- Uses narrow depth of feild, and photographed the meaning of life. His images are quiet and understated but very beautiful.

Wolf Gang Tilmans- Small noticed moments are photographed. He used young people.

Xavier Ribas- Photographs people using places for leisure when they aren't supposed to be.

Lesson 2

Ritual-
  • Repeatition
  • Meaning to you
  • Must "Avoid describing and try to interpret/explore"
  • Look into everyday= a common place

3 Potential Directions/ Qualify as rituals/ connect with everyday

  • Idea of clothes washing- obviously have to wash clothes previously worn generally happens once a week- it is a repeating event in my life no matter what or where i am.
  • Vege Market- i go there every saturday to get fresh fruit and vege for the week ahead- provides me with food/nutrition for the week ahead

Subject Matter-

Difficulties-

Both the vege market and washing only happens once a week and therefore i would have to wait for these rituals to happen and wouldn't be able to photographs these events whenever i wanted.

Approaching each topic-

  • For the vege market i would photograph this ritual including the people that run and sell produce there, the people that consume and buy there product and would also photograph the product itself
  • For the washing ritual i would photograph the ritual by photographing the process, eg. washing on floor, washing in basket, washing in machine, washing on washing horse and lastly washing being folded/ in a pile maybe put away?
